Park Lane Cooperative Mount Vernon: Under Construction in 1929
I have come across this fascinating plat map extracted from an Atlas of the entire Westchester County from 1929. Park Lane is shown in the center of the map, with one building not yet completed (in blue). Immediately to the right in “Bailey Park” is the Bailey Mansion, of Barnum & Bailey fame. To the north is the Cross County Parkway, albeit a small road as compered to today!
When the Bailey family decided to sell off 150 acres of land they first planned on building a golf course. Fortunately they came to their senses and Park Lane, promoted as “Westchester’s Beauty Spot” was built in the 1928-1930 period.
