THE DAILY RAMBLE: A YONKERS DISGRACE - TEUTONIA HALL GIVEN AWAY BY THE CITY

This is disgraceful. Another piece of Yonkers history given away for nothing. Was there any sort of attempt by the city to insure that at least the architectural elements could be removed and preserved? When was this publicized in the media so perhaps some group could have stepped up and purchased the building with the intent of preserving the facade at least? Discussions in front of the LPB may be “public” but that is not enough. For once can’t the City try and advertise, REALLY advertise properties like this to the public so developer interest can be generated?

“James Pinto, the development corporation’s executive director, explained that the site is environmentally contaminated and the ground beneath it must be cleaned, which could put the building in danger of falling.”

Unless their is an underwater stream etc. that would damage the buildings foundation, this is one of the most ridiculous comments I have read. Since when does contamination cause a building to fall?
