Yonkers City Council Holds Farewell Meeting, Says Goodbye To Three Council Members

This evening the Yonkers City Council held a special meeting - its last for the year and the end of the term for three Council Members: Sandi Annabi, Liam McLaughlin and Dee Barbato. A long contentious evening ensued with all seven members of the Council excoriating the Yonkers Board of Education for acting in a disreputable manner by not allowing the Yonkers Inspector General to audit their books. Since the BOE is entirely funded by the taxpayers, to the tune of one-half billion dollars plus per year, it is the general consensus that the BOE must allow an audit of the citizens money by the peoples’ Inspector General. Now that the BOE has accepted the QAZB Bonds, can a Federal audit by the US Department of Education be far behind?

The few members of the BOE Board of Trustees who attended were arrogant and unrepentant, and were taken to task particularly by Councilman John Murtagh. A You Tube video will be forthcoming with most of his speech.

After the contentious business was completed, a roast of the three outgoing councilpersons ensued. It was a lot of fun and very sentimental. I was able to take several pictures of the final night of these councilpersons, who like them or not, brought a lot of passion to the City over the last 8-10 years.
