THE DAILY RAMBLE: First Con Ed, Now The City Of Yonkers Rips Down Trees With No Notice To Residents!
Can you believe it? With all the recent bad press about how Con Ed has been ripping down trees in WestchesterCounty under the guise of protecting their power lines, you would think that the City of Yonkers would smarten up? Well they have not. At least the powers that be at the Yonkers Fire Department have not. Let me say at the outset that I am a firm supporter of the the hard working firefighters of the YFD. I have no beef with them. I do have a beef with a management system that is so stupid and inconsiderate that they do not take the time to think about the consequences of what they are doing. Knowing that what they were going to do would get a reaction, they effectively mugged us. Out of nowhere a line of trucks show up, and workers run (yes RUN) around to cut down the trees as fast as they can before anyone can react.
Since the trees in question were on State Property, they called in the DOT, so I also have to wonder why the State was so quick to cut down their own assets without asking any questions. It amazes me that these trees, (which supposedly were blocking fire trucks from hosing down the building), grew overnight. How long were they there? 50 years? 8o years? 100 years? It is nice to know that it takes the Yonkers Fire Department almost a century to figure out that trees may pose a problem.
On the dubious assumption that they really did pose a problem, how about a dialog? A letter? A notice? Something?

at removing these trees would remove screening for many apartments at Bronxville Terrace from views of the Bronx River Parkway? I now have a 12-month-a-year view of the highway; in the past during the summer the trees blocked the view. Who is going to compensate me for a constructive taking of my property? I also have asthma. The trees helped clean the air.
This may sound silly to you the reader. But if you wake up every morning and look at trees, and one day they are gone for NO reason, due solely to arrogance and stupidity of city officials, what kind of response due you expect? My new view is below; lovely isnt it!
